New walleye limits?

How do you feel about the reduced (4) walleye limits for Lake Vermilion? Will the slot make a difference in the walleye population?

I actually have always thought the 4 walleye limit to be the better alternative. I'm not crazy about the slot limit, thouugh. But what is working on Mille Lacs, Raniy, etc. should work just as well on Vermilion.

I am for the new regulations, although it would be nice to see stronger DNR presence on the lake enforcing these regulations.

Oh, and also, how about some type of signage at every public access and RESORT stating the new regulations for walleye and musky? That should be the first step in EDUCATING AND NOTIFYING THE anglers.

Then comes enforcing the regulations.

i like the new limit now in the near future we will be able to catch decent size Walleye. As someone else said they need to put more DNR enforcing the regulations. Of the many years of me fishing the lake every weekend i still have not seen 1 DNR boat on the whole lake.

The new limits and slot is great for the lake but enforcement is not happening, especially with the slot.
This seems to be a common theme on this blog............

This is your lake, not following the the slot rule is like cheating on your wife, she may never find out but your world is diminshed just the same. I live out of state I know the new rules, they hand out this booklet with every licence sold(I read it). Minnesota fishing regs. We are all adults here and don't need more fish police. Fishing has never been better due to those of us who follow the rules. Vermilion is a self sustaining lake(walleye) and is not stocked by the DNR, we should be proud that we saved our stocks of wild walleye without have to see them crash again, not only that but our wild stock populates other lakes as well, from the taking of spawn from our beautiful lake. So lets pass on the good will toward the future teaching good sportsmanship to the next generation who will enjoy this gift for many years after we are gone. R.C. Dahl Breezy Point Tower Mn

The slot limit of 17-26" is good, but there needs to be a minimum slot limit of releasing walleye under 12" because i've seen fisherman keeping these small fish.

The slot has made the last few years the best fishing i've seen on lake vermilion and has grown the walleye population to new highs.
