Red SunSet Commercial Development on Oak Narrows

I am not sure if you have seen the fliers on your vehicles yet, or the Large Sign on Oak Narrows Rd., but a Development Group has purchased 24 acres off Oak Narrows Rd. 1/2 Mile from Timbuktu and want to mow down all the trees for a Large Self Storage Facility to operate 24hrs a day! This Commercial Investment borders the property lines of at least 4 Property owners that had their Dreams of retiring and maintaining a piece of the Great Northwoods shattered by plans for a large parking lot with a 60 door shed with 24hr security lighting. Lights that can remove the Stars and Northern Lights for everyone within its illuminated impact. This is well before the Noise and Traffic all night long. There is a Public Hearing on this 7/19/07 to hear Your Concerns, Are You concerned?..

Dear Oak Narrows Resident(s) yes I am aware of the development, and I have emailed my comments to lampellat@co.st-louis.mn.us One can also call Tyler at 749-0627 Or attend meeting Thurs July 19 10:15 a.m. at Northland Office center in Virginia... If one thinks this development will be a noisy, nasty ruination of a residential neighborhood, please send comments by the 3 methods descibed above. An Oak Narrows Resident

I wonder how long that property has been zoned for commercial use. Was it zoned that way before the four adjacent property owners bought their places? If it was, those four have no legitimate complaint. Commercial property tends to get used for commercial purposes.

A self storage facility is probably one of the more benign types of development one could hope for.

If there are asthetic concerns, perhaps the offended parties could ask the developer to try to mitigate the negative aspects of the project before it gets off the drawing board. Things like motion sensor or timed lights, attractive fencing, pleasant landscaping, and quiet-operating doors doesn't seem like too much of a stretch for a developer. If he hopes to get your storage business someday, and he does, he'll do what he can to be a good neighbor.

Before the shrill NIMBYs start whining about their reduced property value and quality of life, some actual communication might be helpful.
